AITCHISON WINS THIRD JAFAR TROPHY IN FOUR YEARS
In 2019, Aitchison inaugurated its new Jafar Memorial Hockey Pitch, renovated the Jafar Pavilion, and launched what it hoped would be a new and successful era in hockey. Looking back, it was apt that the great Hassan Sardar cut the ribbon that day, a portent of success to follow. Bringing the Jafar Tournament back to Aitchison was also extremely important. Next came identifying talent and raising the standard of training and competition.
Aitchison now has a flourishing game with two teams always playing in the Jafar. This year, in a competition of 30 schools, our 2nd X1 reached the quarter finals. The first XI played its fourth final in four years, winning its third (5 nil) against a brave Sargodha High School. The coaching of former Olympian Mohammad Saqlain must be acknowledged, as should be the tireless work of our Games Master, Mr. Umer Zaman, who managed this large event. Several current and past Olympians paid tribute to the quality of the boys' skills and fitness. Our vision is to celebrate a number of Aitchisonians in future national hockey teams.
