National Glory: Aitchison Wins the 2026 Sonnu Rahman Debating Championship
The Aitchison College Debating Society secured a distinguished national title by winning the prestigious Sonnu Rahman All Pakistan Debating Championship, held from 13 to 16 February 2026. This highly anticipated tournament brought together 46 of the finest under-17 teams representing some of the most reputable institutions across the country. Representing Aitchison College were Taha Irfan of C2, alongside Hussain Aslam Bhinder, Muhammad Ahmad Zulfiqar, and Ayaan Ahmad of C1, each demonstrating exemplary skill, composure, and strategic acumen throughout the competition.
The team progressed through the preliminary and knockout stages against increasingly formidable opposition, prevailing in each round by unanimous decisions. Their consistent margins of victory underscored not only their technical proficiency and depth of research but also their cohesion as a unit. In a fiercely contested grand finale against LACAS, Aitchison delivered a commanding performance, securing the championship title with an emphatic 10 to 1 split decision in its favour. Consequently, Aitchison College was declared the Best Junior Debating Team in Pakistan.
This achievement marks our second national-level title of the year and our fifth overall championship when both national and state-level competitions are taken into account. More importantly, it stands as a clear testament to the discipline, intellectual rigour, and competitive excellence that define Aitchison’s debaters. The result further consolidates Aitchison’s position as the preeminent debating institution in Pakistan and reflects the sustained culture of excellence that continues to distinguish the College on national platforms.
