Obituary: Prof. Dr. Agha Ghazanfar

Former Principal, Aitchison College (2014–2015)

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Prof. Dr. Agha Ghazanfar on 9th April 2026.

An Aitchisonian who studied at the College for 11 years (1952–1962) and later became its first Old Boy Principal, he had a distinguished student career, winning the Malik Chiragh Khan Debating Challenge Cup (1960–62), the Godley Medal (1960), and numerous academic prizes.

He held a Ph.D. from the University of London (London Business School), was a Solan Fellow, and earned an M.P.A from Syracuse University, along with an M.A in English Literature and a B.A (Hons) in Economics and Political Science.

He served with distinction in the Civil Service of Pakistan for 36 years (1968–2004) and was widely recognised at national and international levels. A distinguished academic and Professor of Business Administration since 2005, he also represented both Pakistan and Ukraine at global forums including the World Bank and IMF.

As Principal (2014–2015), he upheld Aitchison’s traditions and reintroduced the Matriculation system.

He will be remembered for his intellect, leadership, and lifelong service to education and the nation. May Almighty Allah grant him eternal peace.
