From Observation to Understanding: Exploring Craft at 'Kalamkaar'
On 12 September 2026, Prep School Art & Design Department organised a study tour to ‘Kalamkaar’ Furniture Factory and Display Showroom for fifty students, extending learning beyond the classroom into the world of design and craftsmanship.
Rooted in the belief that meaningful art education begins with careful observation and direct experience, the visit encouraged students to look closely, ask questions, and understand how ideas evolve through materials, processes, skills, and thoughtful design decisions. Mr. Qais Rehman, an Aitchison alumnus and owner of ‘Kalamkaar’, personally guided the students through the showroom and production areas, sharing valuable insights into furniture making and traditional craftsmanship.
The experience enabled students to connect observation with inquiry, heritage with contemporary design, and classroom learning with real-world creative practice.
