Remembering Shahzada Irfan Ahmed (Class of 1989)

With great sorrow, Aitchison College announces the passing of our Old Boy, Shahzada Irfan Ahmed (Class of 1989), who departed for his eternal abode on 20 September 2026 at the age of 56.

Irfan joined Aitchison College in 1977 and spent 13 years at the College as a Day Boy. He is remembered by his teachers and peers for his exemplary conduct and gentle character. A talented reciter, he was named Best Qari at the Inter-House level in 1985. He also won Babar House Colour for his exceptional athleticism.

After his graduation from the University of the Punjab, he also gained a degree in law and had a master’s degree in political science. He began his career in 2003, eventually establishing himself as a seasoned and well respected journalist. Throughout his professional journey, he was associated with reputed publications like The News and The Wall Street Journal. In 2009, he was selected for the prestigious Daniel Pearl Fellowship from applicants across 50 Muslim-majority countries. He reported on a wide range of subjects, including the economy, labour, public health, and public policy, with a focus on their human impact.

Beyond his published work, Irfan was respected as a generous mentor and steadfast colleague, known for his guidance and encouragement. His passing is a profound loss to his family, friends, alma mater, and the wider field of journalism.

The College extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and all his loved ones during this time of immense grief.

May Allah Almighty grant his soul eternal peace and give his family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
