Dear Parents,

Re: Cambridge O, AS & A Level Summary results 2018

I am delighted to report that our boys have performed extremely well across all major Cambridge examinations. Given the outstanding university offers this year, it was not to be unexpected. While there will be some boys who will always be disappointed and some few underperforming as is always the sad reality of external examinations, the overall percentages make this the best academic year for a considerable period of time and stronger than 2017. Aitchison continues to demonstrate solid and continued improvement. I am also keen to stress that we are not a school that upholds a harsh academic withdrawal policy. We continue to believe in boys and in their ability to establish great futures with more than grades alone.

In short analysis, the following summarises our performance:

These results mean that O and AS levels are well placed to progress in 2019, while H2 boys, with very few exceptions, have replicated school based predicted grades and will hold university offers at such places as Harvard, Stanford, MIT to name just a few.

With more than 50% of A level boys achieving grades in the A* or B range, and more the 50%  in AS Level achieving grades in the possible A to B range, and a remarkable 75% of O Level students achieving A*, A or B grades, our boys and teachers have formed a great partnership. Our aim as a school is to bring this type of O Level result closer to Senior A Levels, although various factors will always make this a very tough goal to achieve.

Boys who wish to discuss their results and future strategies are encouraged to speak with the Vice Principal, Headmistress and leading academic staff including our Guidance Counselors. I am always pleased to offer assistance as well.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Thomson M.A., Dip. Ed., M.A.C.E
