Aitchison College Farewells Major Geoffrey Langlands

The Upper Junior, Prep and Senior Schools lined Tranquility avenue, Green Drive, Principal's Lane and Pipal avenue to honour the passing of Major Langlands in what is likely to be a never repeated occasion in the history of our great school. Prior to the procession that saw the Major's casket conveyed by horse and cart with dignitaries walking behind on a warm wintry morning, the Principal and old boy Mueen Afzal delivered addresses that touched upon the great man's life and contribution. Muslim and Christian prayers were offered over a casket draped in the flags of England and Pakistan with the major's medals placed atop. At the Maratib Ali Gates on Mall Road the College horse guard saluted the major to the Last Post. His body was transported for burial at Jail Road cemetery. 

Dignitaries from all walks of life paid tribute to a man born at the time of the October Russian Revolution in 1917, who served the armies of three nations, and whose educating and mentoring of the young has few equals. Headmaster of Prep School and Housemaster of Kelly, Major Langlands served Aitchison for 25 years. His life's work extended far beyond even this. 

Vale 'Major.' We will miss you but remember you forever.
