Sport, Culture and Camaraderie: Aitchisonians Shine in Sri Lanka
Aitchison College continued its rich tradition of international sporting engagement with a successful tour to Sri Lanka in June 2026. Our students proudly represented the College in cricket and athletics and brought home numerous accolades. The tour brought together young athletes from Pakistan and Sri Lanka, promoting excellence, sportsmanship and cultural exchange while providing opportunities to compete, experience new sporting environments and build lasting friendships.
Cricket Amid the Monsoon:
The cricket tournament featured Aitchison College, Lyceum International School (Gampaha), Colombo International School and the Shehan Samarathunga Cricket Academy.
Aitchison began with a commanding victory over Lyceum International School. Captain Muhammad Ayaan starred with 92 runs from 59 balls and two wickets, earning Player of the Match honours. He was well supported by Muhammad Bin Ameer, who scored explosive 41 runs from 19 deliveries.
Persistent monsoon rains disrupted the remainder of the tournament, forcing the abandonment of matches against Shehan Samarathunga Cricket Academy and Colombo International School, as well as the fixture between Lyceum International School and Colombo International School.
Despite limited opportunities, Aitchison players continued to impress. Mustafa Salman scored 29 runs from 20 balls against Shehan Samarathunga Cricket Academy, while Muhammad Bin Ameer claimed three wickets against Colombo International School. Ameer Hamza and Shahnawaz added one wicket each.
Although the weather prevented the tournament's completion, Aitchison remained unbeaten in completed matches and demonstrated talent, adaptability and competitive spirit throughout.
Athletics Takes Centre Stage:
The athletics competition was held at Arena Perseus Grounds, Weeragula, and featured Lyceum International School (Gampaha), Bandaranayake College (Gampaha), Anura Central College (Yakkala), Maddumabandara Maha Vidyalaya and Aitchison College.
Across two days of competition, Aitchison athletes produced outstanding performances, winning six gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Aayan Mahmood (U-15) secured two gold medals in Discus Throw and Shot Put. In the Under-14 category, Ali Naveed won two golds and one silver, while Mustafa Shuja matched the achievement with two golds and one silver through field events and the relay team.
Maher Nafees Ahmad Lak earned one silver and two bronze medals, while Mohammad Darim Mehr Ali added one silver and one bronze medal.
Competing against some of Sri Lanka's leading school athletes, the Aitchison contingent displayed resilience, sportsmanship and determination. Beyond the medals, the tour's greatest success lay in the experiences gained through competition, learning and cultural exchange. The boys developed international friendships, gained new perspectives and represented Aitchison College with distinction and honour.
