A Walk Through History: Archives and Campus Tour

As part of Aitchison College’s 140th Founders’ Day celebrations, a special tour titled “A Walk Through History: Archives and Campus Tour” was held from the 13th to the 15th of February 2026. The tour was led by Dr. Tarunjit Singh Butalia, Honorary Envoy of Aitchison College. The tour offered Old Boys a meaningful journey through the College’s rich heritage, blending historical landmarks with the treasures of its archival legacy.

The walk began from the Old Building, continuing to the Mandir and then the Gurdwara, highlighting the cultural and architectural depth of the campus. Old Boys then visited the Archives Display Centre, where they expressed great admiration for the archival display scheme and its relevance in preserving the College’s past for future generations.

Among the most remarkable exhibits was the College’s first souvenir, issued to commemorate the foundation-stone-laying ceremony, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the earliest moments of Aitchison’s history. Another key highlight was the prestigious Aitchison Challenge Cup, with the names of winners engraved year-wise from 1903 to 2004, reflecting more than a century of sporting tradition.

Visitors were also captivated by the historic photograph of the whole school of Aitchison College (1946), as well as the remarkable record of the first batch of 1886, featuring Roll No. 1 Mumtaz Hussain Ali Khan, son of Nawab Muhammad Mukhtar Hussain Ali Khan of Pataudi, and Roll No. 2 Balwant Singh Ber. Another major attraction was the marble bust of Sir Charles Aitchison preserved at the Archives.

Overall, the tour served as a memorable tribute to Aitchison College’s enduring legacy, leaving Old Boys inspired by the institution’s proud past and its vision for the future.
