Dear Parents,

Aitchison is well-aware of the recent 'hazardous' air pollution readings. It is a very difficult reading to always predict with accuracy, as wind and rain do clean the air, but we take cognizance of what authorities report and we act accordingly in the interests of boys’ health. For example, today October 31, we have stopped all sport, riding and PE lessons, including unnecessary outdoor activities. We have encouraged boys to eat lunch inside classrooms and halls. The forecast for the remainder of the week offers respite, although none of us would be entirely happy with the readings as they are. However, I see no reason to close school, but rather we will limit or cancel physical activities as and when needed.

It is up to individual parents to decide if they wish their son(s) to wear a mask(s). We cannot make masks compulsory and nor is the effectiveness of masks against micro pollutants resoundingly clear. Equally, some boys with breathing difficulties may find masks detrimental.
