Aitchison SOPs and Schooling Update

Dear Parents,

Aitchison’s adherence to SOPs has been excellent.  We cannot do more than we are currently doing. Great credit must go to staff along with acknowledging the maturity and discipline of boys. All enjoy being back at school, although everyone looks forward to a return to normal times. Every day-boy’s temperature is tested on arrival. I can report to you that all boarders are free of COVID. When viral testing has taken place, it has been managed by our medical staff in quick time. In these very few instances, boys who have reported feeling unwell have not contracted COVID.

Regardless, we are living in a pandemic and it is always possible that a boy or staff member may test positive. The source of potential infection in a day-boy, especially, is impossible to determine. We are, therefore, relying on parents to be vigilant and to contact the school about their child. While we can closely supervise boarders, we cannot control day-boys and their outside activities or contacts. If any parent is concerned about their son’s health, please have him tested. And if he is positive, please advise the school. This is very important. I am exceedingly grateful to those parents who have advised me personally of infected family members and then kept their sons at home for 14 days. In such cases, a boy may not return until he has passed a viral test approved by our medical staff.

These are anxious times for many people and spreading rumour or speculation on WhatsApp is hardly helpful. The school and its families must work together in pursuit of a common interest. I re-emphasize that parents have the choice to either send or not send their sons to school. We have made provision for both scenarios. I will keep parents updated.

Warm regards,
